The Competent Crew and Day Skipper courses run together. For Competent crew the aim of the course is to introduce those with little or no experience to cruising, and to teach personal safety, seamanship, sail trimming and helmsmanship to the level required to be a useful and confident member of the crew of a cruising yacht.
The Day Skipper course is for members who already have a basic sailing ability with 5 or more days seatime, 100 miles, 4 night hours and a Day Skipper shorebased standard of navigation. It teaches pilotage, navigation, seamanship and boat handling up to the standard required to skipper a small cruising yacht safely by day in tidal waters with which the student is familiar.
