SOYC Boat Systems Course

This course is open to all members. It is the shorebased module of the IYS course, is run on one of the club boats and gives members an opportunity to learn about the systems installed on our vessels. Course duration is 2.5 hours. The syllabus includes:-

  • Raw water impeller replacement
  • Diesel system bleeding
  • Gearbox oil check
  • Throttle and gearbox linkages - and what to do if they fail
  • Removal and replacement of sails
  • Location of skin fittings
  • Log impeller location and cleaning
  • Electrical knowledge (bulb replacement, battery link, fuses etc)
  • Sea toilet principles, precautions, repairs and maintenance
  • Bilge pump and shower drain filters
  • Gas system
  • Central Heating

Attendance on this course is required for new or upgrading Club Coastal or Offshore Skippers.
