Club Dayskipper: able to skipper within the Solent.

Club Coastal Skipper – based on the RYA Yachtmaster Coastal Certicate of Competence. The Yachtmaster Coastal has the skills and knowledge needed to skipper a yacht on coastal cruises no more the 20 nautical miles from safe haven, in favourable conditions.

Club Offshore Skipper – based on the RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate of Competence. The Yachtmaster Offshore is competent to skipper a cruising yacht on any passage during which the yacht is no more than 60 nautical miles from safe haven.

Most Club Skippers will start by qualifying as Club Dayskippers through the practical Skipper Check and will progress through the levels as they gain experience and higher RYA qualifications.

Only one practical Skipper Assessment will be required. Those joining SOYC with RYA YM Coastal or Offshore qualifications may, after a practical Skipper Check, operate at the higher level.
