Come Sailing With Us

Based at Mercury Marina on the Hamble, our skippers organise trips throughout the Solent and beyond. Here are just some of the possibilities:

Day sails

  • Lunch at anchor in Osborne Bay, with views of Osborne House
  • Sailing west to Newtown Creek, Yarmouth, Lymington or as far as Alum Bay
  • Sailing east to Portsmouth Harbour, Wootton Creek, Bembridge or on to Chichester
  • Exploring Southampton Water or the River Medina

Multi-day cruises

Longer trips are charged at the same daily rate; an overnight cruise away is simply twice the day-sail rate.

  • An overnight stay at a local harbour or marina
  • Two nights away to Poole or Weymouth
  • Summer cruising to the West Country and beyond

There’s no fixed programme and trips are organised by skippers and crew throughout the year, so there’s always something to sign up for. We sail all year round, including plenty of winter sailing for those who enjoy the quieter months on the water.

Our club open to those who've never sailed before to those with RYA Yachtmaster qualification and beyond. SOYC is a friendly, member-run sailing club based on the River Hamble near Southampton, with over 300 members and two well-equipped yachts. We sail all year round.

Not sure? Try us first

If you’re curious about sailing but not ready to commit, we hold taster days throughout the year and you're welcome to come along. You’ll spend a full day on the water with one of our qualified skippers and a friendly crew. No sailing knowledge required - just turn up. It’s the best way to see if SOYC is for you.

How joining works

Becoming a member is straightforward:

  • Fill in the membership application form.
  • We’ll set up your account and send you login details for our online booking system
  • Once you've been a member for two days you can book your first sail.

Sign into our booking system, browse available trips, pick a date, and you’ll soon be on the water You don’t need to find a skipper, organise a crew, or own any specialist kit. Just book a place on a trip and turn up. Our skippers will brief you on everything before you leave the pontoon.

What does it cost?

SOYC offers some of the most afforable sailing on the South Coast and our membership fees can be found on the Membership Costs page

On top of your membership, you pay a sailing fee each time you go out.  We sail all year, so there’s no “off season”. The sailing fee covers the boat, fuel, gas, and maintenance. Our most up-to-date sailing fees are published on our Sailing Fees page.

Membership runs for 12 months from which ever month you join. Once we receive the paperwork we will issue you a personal membership number and sign-on information.

Note: There must be an interval of at least two days between becoming a member and admission to the sailing facilities.
