Training Courses

Sailing is fun and all you have to do as a member of SOYC is sign up to join a crew and get out on the water. You might however find it is more fun if you learn more about sailing and advance your own skills.

We have a team of dedicated Instructors offering a range of courses. As well as undertaking SOYC’s own in-house courses.

We are a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Recognised Training Centre, offering practical courses to the RYA’s internationally recognised standards.

We limit our training course to 4 students (the RYA allow 5 per instructor) to make sure each one has close attention. Details of RYA Training will be found in the RYA Yachtmaster Scheme Syllabus and Logbook, RYA Publication G158. Anyone taking up training is advised to acquire a copy and start logging their experience. If you have any difficulty finding one, contact training@soyc.co.uk.

From time to time we shall offer additional courses, for example a trip to France and back for members need to achieve 60 mile passages or Practical Radar.
